What is textured floral art?
Textured floral art is a painting style where you build raised, three dimensional flowers on canvas using a palette knife and light modeling paste tinted with acrylic paint. The lift comes from the paste; the paint is just the color. Each petal is pressed and pulled into place so it stands up off the surface, which gives the piece that sculpted look you see all over Instagram and Pinterest.
It looks advanced. It isn't. Once you learn how to load the knife and place one petal, every flower is just that same move repeated in a new shape. That is why total beginners can finish a piece they actually want to hang on the wall.

Do I need any art experience to take the course?
No. The Texture Studio was made for total beginners. We start with how to hold and load a palette knife before we ever paint a flower, so you never feel lost.
What supplies do I need for textured floral art?
Just three things to buy: light modeling paste, a basic palette knife set, and a paper palette. That starter kit runs under $40. Everything else can come from home: any acrylic paint (cheap bottles work great), an old canvas or any hard flat surface, paper towels, and a cup of water. Supplies are not included, but your Materials List links everything I use.
How do I get the course after I buy?
Right after checkout you'll get a PDF by email with your private link to The Texture Studio. There's no app to download and no account to set up. Bookmark the page and start painting.
Can I watch on my phone?
Yes. The course works on a laptop, tablet, or phone. Print the companion workbook or keep it open on a tablet next to your palette while you paint.
How much time do I need?
About two hours per painting, split into two sessions. Prep Day is about an hour to mix colors and paint your background. Flower Day is about an hour to lay your petals. Lessons are self paced, and the Calm Creative Ritual Guide helps you find time in a busy week.
What if I get stuck?
Flip to the Fix It chart in your companion workbook. It covers flat petals, rough edges, bumps, cracking, canvas showing through, and smushed petals. If you're still stuck, post a photo in the course community and I'll help you.
Do I use a palette knife or a piping bag?
Mostly the palette knife. For raised petals you load the knife from your palette and press it onto the canvas. For flat petals you pipe a little paste onto the canvas and press it flat with your knife. Piping bags also store your mixed paste so it doesn't dry out. Module 2 walks you through both slowly.
What kind of modeling paste should I use?
I use Liquitex Light Modeling Paste. It costs a little more, but it won't crack. Cheaper texture mediums are the most common reason petals crack as they dry.
How long does textured art take to dry?
About 3 hours to set, 12 hours to be dry to the touch, and 24 hours to be fully dry. Sealing with a clear varnish is optional.
Are there live classes?
The course is fully pre recorded so you can paint on your own schedule. If you want to paint with me live, I post new classes each month at jenlaurentaylor.com.
I already have the DIY kit. Do I still need the course?
The kit gives you supplies and one project. The course teaches you the full technique and 16 different flowers, so you can keep painting long after the kit is used up. They work beautifully together.
